The “doer” workshops
Stop overthinking. Start getting things done.
Grow Your Mission. Clarify Your Message. Increase Your Impact.
The DOER Workshop Series is a three month, hands-on experience designed for nonprofit leaders, founders, and changemakers who want to strengthen their organization's marketing and communication strategy.
Through six interactive workshops, you'll work alongside marketing students and experienced practitioners to build the essential components of an effective marketing plan—from clarifying your message and identifying your audience to developing campaigns, content, and growth strategies that drive engagement.
Each session combines practical instruction, guided exercises, real-world examples, and collaborative discussion. You'll leave every workshop with actionable tools, clear next steps, and resources you can immediately apply to your organization.
By the end of the series, you'll have a complete marketing roadmap, stronger messaging, and a clear strategy for increasing awareness, deepening engagement, and expanding your organization's long-term impact.
What to Expect
workshops
#1 Clarify Value proposition
Before people support your mission, they need to understand why it matters.
In this foundational workshop, you'll uncover what makes your organization uniquely valuable, who you serve, and the transformation your work creates. Through guided exercises and collaborative discussion, you'll gain clarity around your mission and begin articulating it in a way that is both compelling and easy to understand.
This workshop lays the foundation for everything that follows in the DOER Workshop Series.
You'll Leave With:
A first draft of your Unique Value Proposition (UVP)
Greater clarity around your mission and impact
Stronger language for communicating what makes your organization distinct
A foundation for future fundraising and marketing efforts
#2 know your audience
The right message only works when it reaches the right people.
Once you've clarified your organization's value, the next step is understanding who needs to hear it. In this workshop, you'll identify the audiences most critical to your mission—including donors, volunteers, participants, churches, sponsors, and community partners.
You'll learn how to think from their perspective, understand what motivates them, and develop messaging that resonates with their needs, goals, and interests.
You'll Leave With:
Audience personas
Donor and volunteer profiles
Greater clarity around your key audiences
Insights into what motivates people to engage with your mission
#3 build a message that connects
Many organizations communicate what they do. The most effective organizations communicate why it matters.
In this workshop, you'll combine your Unique Value Proposition with your audience insights to create messaging that inspires action. Together we'll develop clear, compelling language that helps people quickly understand your mission and the impact they can make by getting involved.
You'll create foundational messaging that can be used across your website, presentations, fundraising efforts, social media, and donor conversations.
You'll Leave With:
A messaging framework
Elevator pitch language
Donor-facing messaging
Website and social media copy foundations
#4 Create your marketing roadmap
Marketing becomes far more effective when it follows a plan.
With your message clearly defined, you'll build a practical marketing strategy designed around your organization's goals, resources, and capacity. We'll identify priorities, communication channels, campaign opportunities, and realistic next steps that can be implemented immediately.
Rather than creating more work, you'll learn how to focus your efforts where they can create the greatest impact.
You'll Leave With:
A basic marketing plan
Channel strategy recommendations
Priority marketing initiatives
A 30-day action roadmap
#5 turn awareness into engagement
The goal of marketing isn't attention
—it's action.
In this hands-on workshop, you'll learn how to move people from awareness to involvement. We'll map the journey supporters take from first discovering your organization to becoming volunteers, donors, advocates, or long-term partners.
You'll identify opportunities to strengthen engagement, improve follow-up, and create a more intentional supporter experience.
You'll Leave With:
A donor or volunteer engagement funnel
Follow-up and nurturing strategies
Website and email conversion ideas
A clearer supporter journey
#6 create content with purpose
Most organizations know they should create content. Few have a system for doing it consistently.
In our final workshop, you'll develop a practical content strategy that helps you communicate your mission year-round without constantly wondering what to post next. We'll build a repeatable framework for creating stories, social media content, emails, testimonials, and mission-focused communications.
The result is a sustainable content process that keeps your organization visible, relevant, and engaging.
You'll Leave With:
Content pillars
Storytelling frameworks
A 30-day content calendar
A repeatable content creation process
